How do you plan to celebrate Earth Day? On April 22nd, Earth Day Canada is asking people to ‘clean your commute’ – to work, to school, to shop, to play or to your Earth Day event! Cleaning your commute represents the first green act of Earth Day Canada’s new “Earth Day Every Day” campaign. An on-line mobile friendly platform will go live on Earth Day and allow you to choose from 25 clean commute options, create a profile, gain recognition, and win prizes. The “Earth Day Every Day” runs for a month from Earth Day, April 22, to May 22, 2015.
Earth Day 2015 marks Earth Day Canada’s 25th anniversary. 2015 is also the year that 196 countries will meet in Paris to develop a new agreement on climate change. Earth Day Canada’s “Earth Day Every Day” campaign will provide a national framework to measure collective action toward the goal of reducing our carbon footprint 20% by 2020, in line with the goals of the Paris climate conference. Transportation currently accounts for a whopping 24% of our carbon emissions and cleaning your commute is a great way to begin making “Earth Day Every Day” - doing your part for the Earth and mitigating climate change.
The
choices we make over the next five years will be pivotal in determining whether
we will be facing moderate versus extreme severe weather events and other
climate change impacts. So on Earth Day sign up for “Earth Day Every Day”!
The microsite provides all the background information people will need to participate,
to share and to organize for Earth Day 2015. As a special feature, people will
have the opportunity to add their signature to an Earth Flag that Earth Day
Canada will take to Paris at the end of 2015!
